Dear members and friends of IAMA-Javaan,
With our warmest greetings and on behalf of the IAMA-Javaan's Board of Directors (BOD), I would like to briefly inform you about our annual meeting in Washington, our new Javaan Board members, and our activities last year and in the upcoming year. Our parent organization (IAMA) held its 15th annual conference in Washington D.C. in May 2008. We enjoyed many excellent scientific, educational, cultural and social events in such a very short time that it felt kind of unbelievable, but it was true. We were very lucky with the weather, so sightseeing was a must for many people. IAMA did an excellent job (as always) and they really deserve great acknowledgment and appreciation for their dedication, time and efforts for the planning and management of these meetings. IAMA-Javaan, was also actively represented and took the responsibility for arranging the social gatherings for Saturday's lunch and dinner. In this regard, Dr Halle Yarmohammadi together with Dr. Golgoun Habibi, Dr. Alireza Shamshirsaz and a few other friends arranged a great plan for the group, and they served the lunch in an open-air area in a Park in front of the hotel. For the dinner, Dr. Ali Moshirfar arranged a very nice get-together at a local bar-restaurant, which was a fantastic experience with good food and good music. Many thanks to all of these friends. Some photos from the meeting (mostly from the social gatherings) are (ready to be) posted on the website and the active members (ONLY) can view, save or print these as they wish. Active members are defined as those who have registered as members, paid their membership fee, and activated their e-mail address by responding back to the webmaster for confirmation. If you can login on our website, you are OK. If you cannot login, the website will automatically generate an e-mail to you and will ask you to confirm your e-mail address and then you are ready to go as an active member. On behalf of last year's IAMA-Javaan Board members, I would also like to thank all of our members and friends for their contributions and support during 2007-2008. Without your support we would not have been able to achieve many of our goals. Last October, Javaan members in Los Angeles and Irvine had good cooperation with another Iranian medical group from LA at the Mehregan gathering in Irvine, where they actively presented our group. Later on we had a very successful conference in Irvine (IAMA-Javaan's 2nd annual meeting) and in this regard our special thanks go to Dr. Behnaz Haghighi for her fantastic effort for arranging a great meeting and Ms. Ghazaleh Tajbakhsh for providing an absolutely free of charge entertainment section. On Friday, June 20, 2008 in San Francisco, we experienced a Social Mixer for Iranian-American Professionals arranged by the Iranian American Bar Association, the Society of Iranian Professionals and IAMA-Javaan. The new trend is catching on and our group in New York is planning a similar gathering in the near future with the Bar Association, which is really great! These social gatherings can also be arranged in other cities as well. If you are interested, just let us know and we will announce it for you via e-mails and post it on our website. Our old website was updated last year and many people have since used it for on-line registration, payment, and updating their membership in a very easy way 24/7. Our website gives very good options to all IAMA-Chapters to use for their own local or national activities. These chapters will have full access and autonomy for the use of the website for their announcements. The only thing we require is that you introduce a webmaster to receive a brief (approximately 2-3 hours) instructions on how to access, use and manage the website. It appears that the Massachusetts and Texas Chapters have started using the website and the Illinois Chapter is on the way. Congratulations to all. Hereby, I would like to thank each and every 2007-2008 IAMA-Javaan Board member for their many contributions and voluntary activities, and then introduce the new Board members for 2008-2009. | President | Mohammad Shokouh-Amiri | MD | Pathology | Memphis, TN | | Vice-President | Mehdy Zarandy | MD | Pathology | Bear, DE | | Treasurer | Alireza Shamshirsaz | MD | OBGYN | Coraville, IA | | Secretary | Manee Mirzaee | BS | Bio-chemistry | East Haven, CT | | Member at large | Nadia Barahmani | MD | MS-Research | Houston, TX | | Member at large | Homayoun Ataei | MD | Family Practice | Shreveport, LA | | Member at large | Shervin Yousefian | MD | Intern.
