April 21, 2007 - IAMA Social Scientific eventGeneral Idea about Orthodontics Treatment and a Touch of the Persian Literature About the speakerDr. Bahram Ghassemi is an Associate Clinical Professor and has been a member of the orthodontic faculty for 20 years. He is the former Chairman of the Orthodontic Department in Teheran, Iran. He is a dual degree specialist having earned his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from Boston University and a Certificate in Orthodontics from Boston University Scool of Dental Medicine. He is a Board certified orthodontist and maintains a full-time practice in the greater Boston area. December 15, 2006 - IAMA/MA hosted 25 visiting Iranian scholars and educators in BostonThe M.A. chapter of IAMA had the pleasure of hosting a group of highly qualified physicians, educators and researchers from Iran. The group comprised to 25 representatives from different Iranian research and academic institutions such as: (in alphabetic order): Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences Iranian National Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Kerman University Mashad University Pars Curative Researchers institute Tehran University of Medical Sciences The above group’s visit to the U.S. was sponsored by the NIH and Aspen Institute. The group visited Boston, MA as the last part of their U.S. tour following visit to Washington D.C., Atlanta, Georgia nad Cleveland, Ohio. IAMA/MA hosted the group for dinner at Gourmeli’s restaurant in Copley Plaza in the last night of their visit. This provided an opportunity for IAMA/MA board members to get to know their colleagues from Iran at a personal level and share scientific and work related information more eaily. September 2006 - IAMA/MA Scientific lectureAn overview on three decades of HIV and addiction in Iran, from a long denial to breaking the silence About the Speaker:Drs. Arash and Kamiar Alaei are the co-authors of “Iran’s National and International Strategic Plans for the Control of HIV/IDU/TB”. They were the key players in putting Iran’s proposal to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS/TB/Malaria, which was awarded 16 million dollars. They have presented more than 60 papers in International congresses and have served as guest speakers in several countries. Arash is Director of the International Education and Research Cooperation of NRITLD which is a WHO collaborating center in EMRO and Kamiar is the Executive Director of Pars Institute (PCRI), NGO, for HIV/STI/IDU prevention, care and support. Kamiar is currently a graduate student at Harvard School of Public Health. They have served as the temporary advisors of the World Health Org. for a few times and have established the first center for HIV/addiction/STD prevention, care and support in Kermanshah, Iran. They are authors of several international articles. Currently Times magazine is in the process of writing a special report on their work and a group from Harvard and MIT are preparing a narration of their success in the HIV/AIDS control programs. May 6, 2006 - IAMA/MA Social/Scientific eventThe role of inflammation in atherosclerosis About the Speaker:Hossein Bayat has earned a Masters in Medical Sciences at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and fulfilled his thesis in Nephrology at Brigham & Women's Hospital. He is finishing his 3rd year as a Ph.D. student in the department of Pathology at BUSM. Hossein is completing his research for his dissertation under the guidance of Dr. Richard A. Cohen "Unit chief of Vascular Biology" in the department of Medicine at BUSM. His research is involved in atherogenesis, an inflammatory process that is complicated by interplay of cytokines, hormones and growth factors. The focus of his dissertation is the role of thromboxane receptor in inflammation March 4, 2006 - IAMA/MA Social/Scientific eventModern Endodontics: Principals and Techniques for World Class Care About the Speaker:Dr. Nasseh is a clinical instructor and Assistant Professor at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Tufts School of Dental Medicine postdoctoral Endodontic Programs. He is the clinical director of Real World EndoT (www.RealWorldEndo.com) and the endodontic advisor to many dental journals and study clubs. Dr. Nasseh lectures extensively nationally and internationally on various aspects of surgical and non-surgical endodontic care. He is the Editor of Harvard Dental Bulletin, and Harvard Access. He is also the president of the Harvard Endodontic Alumni Association. Dr. Nasseh holds a private practice, MicroSurgical? He is an assistant professor of Ophthalmology at Gundersen Eye Center at Boston University. He has performed his undergraduate education at University of Southern California and his medical school, residency, and fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at Boston University School of Medicine department of ophthalmology. He has performed over 5000 refractive surgery procedures including the first accommodative intraocular lens implantation in Massachusetts in June of 2005. He has authored multiple articles and book chapters on cataracts and systemic diseases and laser vision correction. He has been the recipient of Teacher of the year award in 2004 by Boston University ophthalmology residents.
